101-North is an online marketing and advertising company that specializes in solving the biggest problem in business… getting more paying customers. We’re experts in the three most efficient creative marketing tools to get that job done: paid social media marketing, creative content, and branding platforms. Started by David Gassman, 101-North operates leanly and virtually, giving clients the most powerful work without waste, overhead, or high fees. We work with small businesses as well as large clients.

101-North taps a unique collective of top Hollywood creatives from SNL, Modern Family, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Ellen, Dreamworks Animation, Funny Or Die, Martin Short and more. These amazing people create content and ads that are crisp, smart, compelling, and belly-laugh hysterical.

DAVID GASSMAN

I’m a marketing Creative Director and brand strategist with an extensive portfolio of successful marketing campaigns for a wide range of well-known brands. I’ve held senior creative positions at notable advertising agencies including TBWA\Chiat\Day, Deutsch, Houston Effler, McCabe & Company, Secret Weapon Marketing (where I created and produced over 100 TV, radio, digital and POS ads for Jack in the Box), and Foote Cone and Belding where I was a Vice President, Creative Director running the Qwest Telecom account and Kraft brands including A1 Steak Sauce, DiGiorno, and Bulls-Eye BBQ sauce.

Many industry awards and honors have come my way, and my creative work has been featured on CNN, The Today Show, The Huffington Post, Adweek, Adage, Fast Company, Mashable, Lurzers Archive, and many more media outlets worldwide.

I hold a BFA from Parsons School of Design and an MSc in Communication Strategy from Northwestern University. I’m a San Fernando Valley dweller with my wifedaughter, and a small dog that looks like some kind of a rat-boy creature.

I specialize in developing marketing strategy; crafting indelible branding; creating unique, thought-out creative concepts that are brought to life with tight art direction and sharp writing; and executing top-quality finished work that sets brands apart from their competition.

I have a deep knowledge of production in every medium including film, digital, social, experiential, POS, radio, and print. I’m trained in Social Media and Social Network Analysis, Competition Strategy, Change Management, Crisis Management, Research Methods, Organizational Behavior, Economics, Budgeting, and Finance. I’m also pretty handy with light household plumbing.

JOHANNA STEIN

I was born in Winnipeg, Canada, to a pair of American hippie intellectuals who have smoked 73 varieties of marijuana combined. As a result I am a dual citizen who is pathologically easygoing.

I was educated at St. John’s High School (go Tigers!), the University of Winnipeg (go Bruins!), and the American Film Institute (go Film Nerds!) before working my way up the Hollywood pommel horse. I became an assistant and was really, really good at it (I could type 100 wpm, cut a melon to your exact specs and sneeze silently while washing your cat). I worked as a script reader for Dreamworks. I was a director’s assistant and had the best time of my life working on the worst movie in the universe. (Look up “Silence of the Hams”. It’s in the “Seriously?!” section on Amazon.) I’ve acted in some movies: William Shatner pulled a gun on me; and David Lynch told me that my character was so creepy, because “well heck, she’s probably hiding something!”).

I lived through the experience of going viral when my video “MomHead” landed me on The Today ShowThe Doctors, on the front page of CNN and on news outlets all over the world. Consequently, in other countries I am known as “Cabeza de Mamá”, “La tête de la mère”, and “母亲的头”.

My first stab at directing was “Sorority Sluts 3: Spring Break! (The Outtakes)”, a PG rated comedy about XXX-rated film which delighted and offended viewers in film festivals around the world. My second stab,  “We’re With the Band”, ended up being turned into a pilot for Comedy Central, featuring Alanis Morissette and some real, live roadies.

I wrote, produced and directed three short-and-not-so-sweet psa’s about sexual assault which have been seen millions of times, in numerous languages. You can see the English versions herehere, and here. (And I hope you’ll help share them ’til it no longer needs to be said that victim blaming is absurd.)

I’m a member of the DGA, the WGA (and its shy Canadian cousin, the WGC), SAG- AFTRA and The Animation Guild.

My work as writer, producer, director and actor has been seen in such places as Netflix, Amazon, Comedy Central, The Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, The NYTimes, Parents Magazine, The Huffington Post, PBS, The Discovery Channel and The CBC.

I am particularly proud of having found, bagged, and married the 2nd greatest human on the planet (the greatest is the guy who invented “The Ped-Egg”. Him I admire from afar). I am also unnaturally proud my daughter, who, despite my guilt over having had many sips of beer while pregnant, has not turned out to be a jerk.
